Job description

Electrical Contracts Manager

Solar PV | Battery Storage | EV Charging

Location: Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire, with office and site responsibilities
Employment: Full-time, permanent
Salary: Attractive senior-level remuneration package, reflecting experience, technical expertise and responsibility
Benefits: Company vehicle, fuel card, company pension and five weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays

The Opportunity

Valoris Group Limited is recruiting for an experienced Electrical Contracts Manager to take a key senior role within a renewable energy contractor based in Droitwich Spa.

Combining commercial ownership, operational delivery and technical leadership, this position offers the opportunity to take responsibility for solar PV, battery energy storage and EV charging projects from contract handover through to completion. You will lead project delivery, manage budgets and resources, and help shape the business's technical and installation standards.

The successful candidate will also act as the company's NICEIC Qualifying Supervisor (QS) and MCS Technical Supervisor. You must therefore be a fully qualified electrician with substantial practical and technical renewable energy experience, alongside established electrical contracts management capability.

Previous electrical contracts management experience is essential. This opportunity is intended for someone already comfortable owning contracts, programmes, budgets, labour, subcontractors and commercial performance, rather than taking their first step into contracts management.

Key Responsibilities
Contracts and Project Delivery
  • Take overall responsibility for allocated electrical and renewable energy contracts, delivering safely, compliantly, on programme, within budget and to a high standard.
  • Manage solar PV, battery storage and EV charging projects from initial contract handover and planning through procurement, installation, commissioning and completion.
  • Review project scopes, specifications, drawings, quotations and contractual requirements, ensuring the delivery team understands what is required.
  • Develop and maintain project programmes, installation schedules and milestones across multiple live projects.
  • Plan labour and resources, coordinating electricians, installation teams and subcontractors to meet programme requirements.
  • Coordinate site mobilisation, installation, commissioning, snagging and final handover, ensuring project documentation and close-out records are complete.
  • Lead project, site and client meetings, maintaining professional communication with clients, principal contractors, consultants, distribution network operators, suppliers, manufacturers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure materials, plant and equipment are procured in time to support the programme.
  • Monitor progress, identify project risks and implement practical solutions to programme, technical and operational issues.
Commercial Management
  • Take ownership of the commercial performance of allocated contracts, managing budgets and monitoring labour, material and subcontractor costs.
  • Track actual costs against budgets and forecasts, monitor margins and identify potential overruns early.
  • Identify, record and manage variations and additional works, providing accurate information for valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Review subcontractor costs and completed works, supporting procurement and negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Improve productivity and profitability without compromising safety, compliance or installation quality.
  • Provide regular project, programme and commercial updates to senior management.
  • Support estimating and tendering with technical input, appropriate installation methods and realistic labour requirements.
NICEIC Qualifying Supervisor
  • Act as the company's NICEIC Qualifying Supervisor and maintain the technical standards required for its NICEIC registration.
  • Ensure electrical installations comply with the current edition of BS 7671 and other applicable requirements.
  • Provide technical supervision and guidance to electricians and installation teams, overseeing inspection, testing, commissioning and certification.
  • Review electrical certificates and supporting technical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Carry out site inspections and technical audits, monitoring workmanship and compliance across directly delivered and subcontract installations.
  • Identify non-conformances and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Prepare for and support NICEIC assessments and surveillance visits, alongside competency assessments and the ongoing technical development of electrical personnel.
MCS Technical Supervisor
  • Act as the company's MCS Technical Supervisor for applicable renewable energy technologies.
  • Maintain technical oversight of MCS-certified installations and support continued compliance with applicable MCS standards and scheme requirements.
  • Ensure solar PV and battery storage systems are designed, installed, commissioned and handed over in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Review system designs, calculations, PV array layouts, inverter selections, battery configurations and associated electrical infrastructure.
  • Ensure commissioning records, certificates and customer handover documentation are completed correctly.
  • Maintain technical records and support MCS assessments and surveillance activities.
  • Ensure personnel undertaking MCS-related work are competent for their assigned activities, keeping up to date with relevant requirements and implementing changes where necessary.
Technical Leadership
  • Provide practical technical leadership across solar PV, battery energy storage and EV charging installations.
  • Review electrical designs, drawings, schematics, cable calculations and equipment selections, including protection, earthing, isolation and cable sizing.
  • Resolve design and installation issues and support DNO applications and G98/G99 requirements where applicable.
  • Liaise with manufacturers on equipment selection, compatibility, commissioning and technical issues.
  • Develop consistent installation standards and best practice, maintaining awareness of changes to electrical regulations and renewable energy standards.
Health, Safety and Quality
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture and review and approve appropriate risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) before work starts.
  • Ensure site teams and subcontractors follow company health and safety procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality audits, maintaining high standards of workmanship and ensuring defects, non-conformances and snagging items are resolved promptly.
  • Escalate significant safety, technical, commercial and programme risks to senior management.
Team and Subcontractor Management
  • Manage electricians, installation teams and subcontractors, allocating labour according to programme requirements and individual competency.
  • Set clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity and professional conduct, and monitor performance against them.
  • Assess subcontractor technical competence and workmanship.
  • Mentor electricians and installers, support technical development and assist with recruitment and competency assessments where required.
Essential Experience and Capabilities
  • Previous experience as an Electrical Contracts Manager or in a directly comparable contracts management position.
  • Proven experience managing electrical contracts from handover to completion, including multiple live projects at the same time.
  • Responsibility for project budgets, programmes, labour, materials, subcontractors, variations and commercial performance.
  • Strong practical and technical solar PV experience, together with experience of battery energy storage systems and EV charging installations.
  • Strong inspection, testing and electrical certification experience.
  • Experience supervising electricians, subcontractors and installation teams.
  • The ability to undertake both NICEIC Qualifying Supervisor and MCS Technical Supervisor responsibilities, with a good understanding of applicable MCS requirements.
  • Sound understanding of electrical design, protection, earthing and cable sizing.
  • Strong commercial awareness and a good understanding of health and safety within electrical contracting.
  • Confident leadership, organisation, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make decisions and take accountability for delivery.
Essential Qualifications
  • A recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
  • Current 18th Edition / BS 7671 qualification.
  • An appropriate Inspection and Testing qualification.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Experience

Previous appointment as a NICEIC Qualifying Supervisor and/or MCS Technical Supervisor would be highly advantageous. Additional experience in commercial solar PV, commercial battery storage, EV charging infrastructure, DNO liaison, G98/G99 applications, renewable energy system design, procurement, valuations and final accounts would also be beneficial.

Package and Benefits
  • Attractive senior-level remuneration package reflecting experience, expertise and the responsibilities of the role.
  • Company vehicle and fuel card.
  • Five weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Company pension scheme.
  • Full-time, permanent employment.
  • A senior position with significant responsibility and the opportunity to influence the technical and operational development of the business.
About You

You will be equally comfortable reviewing project costs and programmes in the office, chairing client and subcontractor meetings, resolving technical issues and visiting sites to assess installation quality and progress. Commercially aware, technically strong and accountable, you will be able to balance programme, profitability, compliance, safety and client expectations while leading teams through to successful completion.
