Job summary

SaveMoneyCutCarbon is seeking a Technical Delivery Manager to own the technical and operational delivery of commercial Solar PV and related projects in the UK. You will coordinate our electrical and installation teams, subcontractors and installation partners, ensure on-time mobilisation, commissioning and handover, and maintain safe, compliant practice across projects.

The Technical Delivery Manager will take ownership of the technical and operational delivery of our commercial Solar PV and associated renewable energy projects.

The role will predominantly involve managing:

• Our own electrical and installation teams


• Electrical and renewable subcontractors


• Specialist installation partners


• Suppliers and manufacturers


• Customers and other project stakeholders

The successful candidate will coordinate projects from handover into delivery through mobilisation, installation, commissioning and final customer handover.

They will be responsible for making sure the right people are in the right place, with the right materials and information, and that work is completed safely, compliantly, on programme and to the expected quality.

Project Delivery & Management

Key responsibilities will include:

• Taking ownership of projects following handover into delivery.


• Reviewing project scope, technical requirements, programme and delivery assumptions before mobilisation.


• Planning and coordinating labour, subcontractors, materials, equipment and access.


• Undertaking pre-start meetings and site visits where required.


• Developing and managing project programmes and key delivery milestones.


• Coordinating our own installation teams and external contractors.


• Managing multiple projects at different stages of delivery.


• Maintaining clear and regular communication with customers.


• Monitoring progress and proactively dealing with delays, technical problems and other delivery issues.


• Identifying variations and changes in scope and ensuring these are appropriately managed.


• Taking ownership of issues rather than allowing them to become somebody else’s problem.

Managing Contractors & Installation Teams

A major part of this position will be managing the people physically delivering our projects.

The successful candidate will:

• Manage and coordinate Solar PV and electrical subcontractors.


• Manage our own electricians and installation teams.


• Ensure contractors receive clear scopes, drawings, programmes and technical information.


• Set clear expectations around programme, quality, safety and customer conduct.


• Monitor work while projects are underway.


• Challenge poor workmanship and non-compliant installations.


• Hold contractors and internal teams accountable for agreed actions and completion dates.


• Resolve issues between different trades and contractors.


• Build and maintain a strong network of reliable installation partners.


• Review contractor performance and help us continually improve our supply chain.


• Ensure subcontracted delivery meets the same standards we would expect from our own teams.

Hands-On Technical Capability

Although this is primarily a management and delivery role, maintaining practical electrical capability is important.

We are looking for somebody who has actually installed Solar PV systems, rather than somebody whose experience has only been managing these technologies.

Electrical & Technical Leadership

The role will:

• Act as a technically competent electrical lead for Energy & Renewables delivery.


• Review electrical designs, drawings and technical specifications.


• Review Solar PV installation proposals from a practical delivery perspective.


• Provide technical guidance to electricians, installers and subcontractors.


• Resolve technical issues arising during installation and commissioning.


• Maintain high standards of electrical workmanship.


• Ensure appropriate testing, certification and commissioning are completed.


• Support technical decision-making across projects.


• Help establish consistent installation standards and best practice.

Compliance & Governance

The role will be responsible for:

• Ensuring installations comply with current electrical regulations and relevant industry standards.


• Supporting the technical requirements associated with MCS where applicable.


• Managing or coordinating DNO applications and approvals.


• Ensuring relevant Building Control requirements are addressed.


• Ensuring testing, commissioning and certification are completed correctly.


• Maintaining appropriate project and technical documentation.


• Ensuring O&M manuals and customer handover packs are completed.


• Maintaining appropriate technical governance across our Energy & Renewables activities.

Site Surveys & Technical Specification Support

The role will also provide practical, site-based support to our technical team during the development and specification of projects.

The successful candidate will:

• Undertake detailed site surveys for Solar PV and associated projects.


• Assess existing electrical infrastructure, distribution arrangements, available capacity, cable routes, access requirements and practical installation constraints.


• Capture accurate site information, measurements, photographs and technical data required by the technical team.


• Identify potential technical, installation, access and health & safety risks at an early stage.


• Assess the practical suitability of proposed locations for equipment, containment, inverters and associated electrical infrastructure.


• Support the technical team in developing appropriate project specifications based on actual site conditions.


• Provide practical installation input into designs and specifications before they are finalised.


• Identify where further specialist surveys, structural assessments or investigations may be required.


• Support the development of scopes of work and installation methodologies.


• Review proposed designs against site conditions and highlight potential issues before projects move into delivery.


• Help ensure that projects are technically sound, appropriately specified and practically deliverable before they reach the installation stage.


• Work closely with the technical and commercial teams to ensure survey information is accurately transferred into the project scope and specification

Pre-Construction & Commercial Support

The role will also:

• Review projects before mobilisation from a practical delivery perspective.


• Support technical surveys and site assessments.


• Identify potential installation risks before work starts.


• Review proposed designs and installation methodologies.


• Support RFQs and selection of appropriate subcontractors.


• Provide practical input into labour requirements, programme, access, equipment and materials.


• Help ensure projects are properly scoped before being handed to installers.


• Identify potential variations and commercial risks during delivery.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate must:

• Be a qualified electrician with recognised electrical qualifications.


• Have strong practical experience of commercial electrical installations.


• Have genuine hands-on experience installing Solar PV systems.


• Have a good working knowledge of current electrical regulations.


• Have experience taking responsibility for electrical works, sites, teams or projects.


• Be capable of managing electricians, subcontractors and installation teams.


• Be able to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical specifications.


• Have strong planning and organisational skills.


• Be confident communicating with customers, contractors and colleagues.


• Have good IT skills and be comfortable using project and business management systems.


• Have good written communication and documentation skills.


• Have a practical problem-solving mentality.


• Be commercially aware.


• Hold a full UK driving licence.


• Be willing to travel throughout the UK as required.

Desirable Experience

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

• Commercial Solar PV installation.


• Commercial EV charging installation.


• Electrical supervision.


• Solar or EV installation supervision.


• Electrical project management.


• Managing electrical subcontractors.


• MCS.


• DNO applications and grid connections.


• NICEIC or equivalent compliance environments.


• Commissioning and fault finding.


• RAMS and site documentation.


• Project commercial management.


• Customer-facing project delivery.

Formal project management qualifications would be beneficial but are not essential.
