Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority seeks an Electrical Commissioning Engineer to lead installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems for remote handling projects. The role involves hands‑on work across cutting‑edge projects with potential travel to external sites, including locations outside the UK.

You will supervise technicians, prepare procedures and safety documentation, and contribute to engineering standards while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• A formal Electrical, Electronic or Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, ONC, HNC, BSc, BEng or equivalent).
• Experience delivering complex electrical systems in a practical engineering environment.
• Experience testing and commissioning electrical systems.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics and assembly drawings.
• Experience building, wiring and modifying electrical panels, harnesses and large cabinets or cubicles.
• Experience working in a safety‑critical or highly regulated engineering environment.

About the Job

As an Electrical Commissioning Engineer, you will lead the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems used in RACE remote handling projects. Working as part of a skilled engineering team, you will play a hands‑on role in delivering complex electrical equipment, ensuring it is installed safely, operates effectively and meets required standards. This role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of cutting‑edge projects and may include travel to external sites, including locations outside the UK.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Testing and commissioning electrical systems to ensure they meet operational, safety and site requirements.
• Installing electrical hardware, control panels, cubicles, harnesses and cabling for remote handling applications.

Lead the electrical commissioning activities across the RACE project portfolio.

What You’ll Bring

UKAEA is an onsite organisation and this role requires onsite presence 5 days a week.We actively support flexible working arrangements where this is compatible with the role.
