Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Engineer for the RACE project portfolio. You will lead the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems, ensuring safety, quality and compliance, with potential travel to external sites.

The role includes supervising technicians and developing procedures, with a strong focus on safety-critical engineering environments and on-site delivery five days a week.

Qualifications

• Formal Electrical, Electronic or Engineering qualification.
• Experience delivering complex electrical systems in engineering environments.
• Experience testing and commissioning electrical systems.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and assembly drawings.
• Experience building/wiring electrical panels, harnesses and large cabinets.

Responsibilities

• Test and commission electrical systems to meet safety and site requirements.
• Install electrical hardware, control panels, cubicles, harnesses and cabling for remote handling.
• Lead electrical commissioning activities across project portfolio.
• Prepare and review commissioning procedures, method statements and safety docs.
• Support manufacturing and assembly of electrical hardware and cabling.
• Carry out inspections and QA during build and commissioning.
• Contribute to engineering standards and best practices.
• Take responsibility for commissioning activities with proper controls.
• Supervise technicians performing electrical installation, testing and commissioning.

About the Job

As an Electrical Commissioning Engineer, you will lead the installation, testing and commissioning of electrical systems used in RACE remote handling projects. Working as part of a skilled engineering team, you will play a hands-on role in delivering complex electrical equipment, ensuring it is installed safely, operates effectively and meets required standards. This role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of cutting-edge projects and may include travel to external sites, including locations outside the UK.

What You'll Be Doing

• Testing and commissioning electrical systems to ensure they meet operational, safety and site requirements.
• Installing electrical hardware, control panels, cubicles, harnesses and cabling for remote handling applications.

Lead the electrical commissioning activities across the RACE project portfolio.

• Preparing and reviewing commissioning procedures, method statements and safety documentation.
• Support manufacturing and assembly for electrical hardware and cabling systems.
• Carrying out inspections and quality assurance activities during equipment build and commissioning.
• Contributing to the development of engineering standards and best working practices.

Take responsibility for commissioning activities, ensuring appropriate controls and documentation in place.

• Supervising technicians undertaking electrical installation, testing and commissioning tasks.

What You'll Bring

• A formal Electrical, Electronic or Engineering qualification (City & Guilds, ONC, HNC, BSc, BEng or equivalent)
• Experience delivering complex electrical systems in a practical engineering environment.
• Experience testing and commissioning electrical systems
• The ability to interpret electrical schematics and assembly drawings
• Experience building, wiring and modifying electrical panels, harnesses and large electrical cabinets or cubicles
• Experience working within a safety-critical or highly regulated engineering environment.

UKAEA is an onsite organisation and this role requires onsite presence 5 days a week.We actively support flexible working arrangements where this is compatible with the role.
