Job Introduction

Milton Keynes is a vibrant and growing city at the heart of Buckinghamshire. As a unitary authority, we serve a diverse population across both urban and rural communities and work closely with our parish councils. We elect by thirds and are proud to support a strong and active local democracy. Milton Keynes gained city status in 2022 and is recognised as one of the UK's most innovative places, with around one in three jobs linked to the technology sector.

Our Electoral Services team plays a vital role in ensuring elections and democratic processes are delivered accurately, fairly and efficiently. We have a strong, experienced and knowledgeable team with a reputation for innovation, having recently delivered the country's first election day Central Voting Hub pilot during the local elections. You'll join a dedicated and collaborative team where you'll help deliver elections, maintain the electoral register and support democratic participation across Milton Keynes. We will support you to develop your skills and make a real difference to residents and local democracy. To help us find the right person for our team, we've created both development and experienced level opportunities, allowing us to match the role to your skills, experience and career aspirations while supporting your continued growth and development.

  • Use electoral management systems to maintain records, produce reports and monitor key deadlines.
  • Work closely with councillors, candidates, agents, residents and partner organisations to provide a high-quality service.
  • Contribute to election planning and wider democratic services activities, helping ensure important statutory deadlines are met.

If you're appointed at the development level, you’ll receive structured training and support to build your knowledge and experience, with opportunities to progress your career within the service. If you're appointed at the experienced level, you’ll take on a broader range of electoral administration responsibilities, using your expertise to support the delivery of a professional, reliable and high-quality service.
