ESSENTIAL EMPLOYMENT LTD in Basildon is seeking an experienced Electoral Services Manager on a full-time temporary basis. You will lead the Electoral Services team, ensure compliance with electoral law, and oversee registration, canvass planning, and elections delivery to support transparent and efficient processes.

The role requires strong leadership, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving to maintain public confidence in the electoral system while delivering on statutory deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the Electoral Services team, ensuring high standards.
• Oversee the compilation, maintenance and publication of the Register of Electors and absent voter records.
• Act as the organisation’s subject matter expert on electoral registration, elections and legislation.
• Manage the planning and delivery of the annual electoral canvass, including project management and budget monitoring.
• Lead administration and delivery of local, regional and national elections and referenda.
• Manage the annual postal vote refresh and all absent voting processes, ensuring compliance.
• Lead and coordinate polling district, polling place and community governance reviews.
• Monitor legislative developments and implement procedural and system changes.
• Maintain responsibility for electoral management systems and data integrity.
• Prepare and submit statutory returns and reports to the Electoral Commission.
• Recruit, train and manage temporary election and canvass staff.
• Manage service budgets and resources to ensure value for money.
• Investigate and respond to complex enquiries and complaints.
• Foster effective working relationships with elected members and stakeholders.
