Job summary

Mitie is recruiting an Environment, Health & Safety Specialist for our Worthing site in West Sussex. This 18-month fixed-term contract role focuses on construction safety, environmental compliance, and contractor management within a regulated manufacturing environment.

You will lead audits, risk assessments and RAMS reviews, work with senior stakeholders, and drive safety improvements across capital projects while coaching site teams on EHS best practices.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH qualification or equivalent in Health & Safety, Construction Safety or Environmental Management.
• Degree in Engineering, Science, Environmental, Health & Safety or related discipline.
• Experience in manufacturing, process, pharmaceutical, FMCG, utilities, chemical or high-risk environments.
• Knowledge of contractor management, CDM, construction and demolition safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead the site's Construction Safety programme and drive continuous improvement across multiple projects.
• Provide expert guidance on construction, demolition, contractor safety, permits to work, and risk management.
• Support environmental compliance activities including energy, water, waste, wastewater and sustainability initiatives.
• Conduct audits, inspections and compliance reviews across EHS programmes.
• Partner with engineering, operations and project teams to ensure safe delivery of capital projects.
• Review and approve RAMS, Construction Phase Plans and project documentation.
• Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Build EHS capability through coaching, training and engagement with staff and contractors.
• Act as a point of contact for regulators, auditors and senior stakeholders.
