SSA Recruitment is seeking an experienced EHS Lead for a major data centre project in Didcot, Oxfordshire. You will provide strategic and operational EHS leadership across the project, working with senior management and subcontractors to uphold the highest safety standards.

The role requires NEBOSH qualification, 5+ years in construction EHS, and a track record of guiding teams through RAMS, audits and incident investigations on large-scale projects.

• NEBOSH General, Construction or equivalent Health & Safety qualification is required.

• Proven experience in a senior EHS/H&S position on large-scale or technically complex projects.
• Experience with data centre, life sciences, industrial or related projects is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and industry best practice.
• Proven experience leading EHS teams and site safety operations.

About the Client

Our client is a leading engineering and construction contractor delivering major, technically complex projects across the UK and internationally.

With extensive experience across the data centre, life sciences, commercial and critical infrastructure sectors, they have built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality projects safely and efficiently.

The successful candidate will join an established project team working on a major data centre development in Didcot, Oxfordshire, providing an excellent opportunity to take a senior EHS leadership position on a high-profile project.

About the Role

Our client are currently seeking an experienced EHS Lead to take responsibility for leading the Environmental, Health & Safety function on a major data centre project in Didcot, Oxfordshire.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and operational EHS leadership across the project, working closely with the Project Director, Construction Managers, Site Management teams, subcontractors and wider project stakeholders.

This is a senior site-based position, suited to an experienced EHS professional with a strong construction background and previous experience leading EHS activities on large-scale or technically complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the EHS function across the project.
• Provide strategic and day-to-day EHS leadership, advice and guidance to the project team.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant UK H&S legislation, company policies and project requirements.
• Develop, implement and monitor the project EHS management plan and systems.
• Lead regular site inspections, audits, safety walks and EHS reviews.
• Oversee the review and approval of RAMS, method statements and safe systems of work.
• Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and high-potential events.
• Monitor and manage subcontractor EHS performance and compliance.
• Establish and monitor project EHS KPIs, trends and performance reporting.
• Lead regular EHS meetings, forums and safety briefings with project and senior management.
• Identify key project risks and ensure effective corrective and preventative actions are implemented.
• Work closely with Project Directors, Construction Managers and Site Managers to maintain high EHS standards.
• Promote and embed a strong positive safety culture across the project.
• Support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives across the project.
• Ensure all relevant EHS documentation, records and reporting are maintained to a high standard.
• Act as a senior point of contact for EHS matters across the project and with key stakeholders.

Requirements

• NEBOSH General, Construction or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
• 5+ years' experience within a construction EHS/H&S environment.
• Proven experience in a senior EHS/H&S position, ideally within a large-scale construction project.
• Previous experience working on data centre, pharmaceutical, life sciences, industrial or other technically complex projects would be highly advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation, regulations and industry best practice.
• Proven experience leading and managing EHS teams and site safety operations.
• Strong experience with RAMS, audits, inspections, incident investigation and risk management.
• Experience managing and monitoring subcontractor EHS performance.
• Confident working with Project Directors, Construction Managers, Site Managers and senior stakeholders.
• Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
• CSCS and relevant construction site experience.
• IOSH membership / GradIOSH or above would be advantageous.
• Experience working within a Tier 1 contractor or major engineering/construction environment would be beneficial
