Job Title: SHEQ Manager

Location: Hybrid / Midlands based

Salary: Competitive + Benefits

Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Role Overview

To oversee and manage all ongoing Quality, Health & Safety, Environmental, and compliance requirements within the utilities sector, ensuring adherence to industry standards, regulations, and best practices. The role involves promoting continuous improvement in operational systems, methods, and performance across the organization, with a focus on delivering high-quality utility connection services.

Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, maintaining accreditations (such as ISO, NERS, GIRS, WIRS, and Achilles), and fostering a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and quality excellence. The SHEQ Advisor will work collaboratively with internal teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards, contributing to the company's growth and reputation as a trusted ICP in the utilities industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promoting quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the Company.
  • Work effectively with all departments to continually improve all systems and methods of work.
  • Working with purchasing staff to establish quality requirements from external suppliers.
  • Ensuring compliance with the applicable standards and legislation.
  • Agreeing standards and establish clear, defined quality methods for staff to implement.
  • Identifying relevant training needs and delivering HSE & Quality related training.
  • Ensuring procedures are properly understood and carried out as necessary.
  • Undertake HSE & Quality inspections and audits.
  • Assist with or prepare Project Construction Phase H&S, Environmental and Quality Plans for office and site activities.
  • Monitor and maintain all associated company registers (e.g. Training / Asset register).
  • Investigate any non-compliance issues and communicate findings and resolutions to Senior Management Team.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the standards, policies and procedures of the company and its customers
  • Ensure all sub-contracts are approved in line with business policies.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure the company procedures and policies are fully communicated to all.
  • Approval and on-going monitoring of the performance of suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure Risk Assessments are carried out at all stages of a project.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses and ensure that remedial action is carried out promptly.
  • Report any concerns regarding SHE to the SHEQ Manager / Managing Director.
  • Take reasonable care of yourself and others who may be affected by your actions.
  • Ensure there is prompt recording and investigation of all accidents.
  • Manage and raise awareness of occupational health issues
  • Deal with any concerns regarding Safety, Health or the Environment.
  • Familiarity of Risk Management

Planning & Organising

  • Ensure all third-party surveillance visits are carried out to an agreed programme.
  • Agree programmes for document review, control measures, training, audits, and company registers.
  • Organise personal workload to maximise effective use of time.
  • Take overview of Health & Safety and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Timetable activities within Health & Safety plan.
  • Liaise with Management regarding health & safety needs.
  • Represent the company to customers and individuals from other companies.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with customers and other external parties.
  • Deal with all issues arising including investigation and resolution of customer complaints.
  • Liaise with the public to ensure smooth implementation of work.

People/Teamwork

  • Work alongside other members of the management team to ensure the effective delivery of H&S, Environmental and Quality performance.
  • Communicate effectively with all staff and ensure that team meetings and other communication channels are fully effective.
  • Ensure all people are treated in a fair and equitable way in accordance with the company policies.
  • Work with teams to ensure safe, effective and efficient implementation of the company's operations.
  • Work closely with Managers to ensure effective allocation of resources.
  • Contribute to wider team: advise, share knowledge and experience based on expertise.
  • Liaise with colleagues across the organisation to ensure effective completion of tasks.

Quality

  • Ensure the operations systems in place provide the best possible value for money.
  • Ensure all technical work is carried out to the very highest level of quality.

Skills & Expertise

  • Graduate calibre.
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • H&S, Environmental and Quality Assurance experience within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of CDM regulations.
  • Technical experience in electrical, mechanical or civil construction works desirable.
  • Quality, H&S and Environmental Auditing qualification desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong influencing and consulting/communication skills.
  • PC knowledge including Microsoft applications.
  • Experience of collaboration with suppliers or contractors.
  • Proven experience of working
