Job Overview

An opportunity has arisen for 2 experienced individuals to join our medical laboratory team at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and the Princess Royal Hospital. The post holder will work as part of a 24/7 rota during training new staff for out-of-hours shifts. Saturdays, Sundays, and bank holidays will be part of the rotation.

Core hours Monday - Friday: 09:00-17:30. The role involves supervising Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) in Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, and Blood Transfusion. You will assign staff to sections, identify training needs, and escalate matters outside your responsibility to the Specimen Reception manager.

Main duties of the job

The MLA Supervisor will supervise and organize MLA staff, perform tasks contributing to an integrated diagnostic service, and train staff to the required level.

  • Prioritize workload and organize daily activities of the MLA team.
  • Assist in training and inducting new staff.
  • Conduct staff appraisals, recommend further training, and develop personal development plans.
  • Work under direct or indirect supervision at all times.
  • Communicate professionally with other Pathology staff and handle external enquiries appropriately.
