Where you fit in

You will play a key role in the UK/Continental Power Trading Desk, as part of a team focusing on asset optimization (thermal/renewable) and speculative positions from Month-Ahead to Day-Ahead across the European markets.

The UK/Continental Power Trading team, part of Shell Energy Europe & Africa's (SE-EA) European Power Trading team, is responsible for proprietary trading and managing a growing portfolio comprising customer demand, renewable energy, batteries, and thermal generation. The team manages exposures down the curve through to delivery.

SE-EA trades natural gas, power, green power certificates, and environmental products, engaging with counterparties including resource holders, upstream producers, investment banks, trading houses, utilities, power generators, retail companies, distribution companies, storage operators, and large industrial users.

What's the role?

Your main responsibilities include:

1. Taking positions and managing exposures based on fundamental, weather, and technical market analysis across multiple markets.
2. Collaborating with curve traders on asset/deal hedging strategies from curve to month-ahead.
3. Working with external and internal customers to introduce new structures or deal types for optimizing exposures.
4. Supporting the development of tools and resources for managing and monetizing prompt positions.
5. Staying informed on regulatory and market developments.
6. Ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines and authorities.
7. Coaching and educating junior colleagues.

What we need from you

We seek experienced trading professionals, likely with hands-on experience in:

• Prompt power trading in European markets, especially Germany and Netherlands, with a proven track record.
• Established networks with industry participants.
• Managing thermal and renewable assets in the month-ahead to day-ahead window.
• Strong understanding of market and weather fundamentals, and willingness to collaborate on model development.
