Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 6 Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our specialist team, caring for approximately 100 children and young people aged 0-19 years. We are recruiting a permanent position, working 26 hours over 3 - 4 days. We require the successful applicant to generally work Monday - Thursday (3 days one week and 4 days the next) with flexibility to respond to the demands of the service to ensure service cover. The service is based at Dorset County Hospital and works with the population in the locality.
We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and supportive Specialist Nurse to join our forward thinking and innovative Paediatric Diabetes team. The post holder will provide leadership and expert clinical management of diabetes in childhood and adolescence to enable children and young people with diabetes to reach their optimum level of health, independence, social and psychological/emotional well-being, through provision of continuous clinical, social and psychological/emotional support for the patient, their families and carers.
It is possible to offer this post as a band 5 developmental post as Diabetes Staff Nurse for candidates who are interested in becoming a PDSN, with progression to band 6 PDSN following the successful completion of a recognized Management of Childhood Diabetes Course.
Main duties of the jobThe role will involve managing a caseload of patients, providing expert advice to children and young people with diabetes and their families in both the community and hospital setting therefore the ability to drive and use own car for work is essential.
You will be actively involved in quality improvement within the team including contributing to improvements in care in both hospital and community settings through multi-professional, multi-agency working, across primary and secondary health care services and the Paediatric Diabetes Network.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate leadership qualities, excellent communication skills and be highly motivated to work with the team to continue to develop and enhance our service.
