Coordinate a team of tutors, supporting the Head of English to ensure that all courses are delivered to agreed standards, follow the agreed curriculum, and utilise agreed assessment modes, resulting in the best possible outcomes for students and the best possible student experience. To support the design and management of the delivery of an agreed collection of modules in a subject area.

ABOUT THE ROLE
  1. Coordinate a team of Tutors to contribute to ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience at present in the Academic English Skills and other related modules.
  2. Recruit new academic staff for the subject area as required and according to Study Group policies and procedures.
  3. Provide regular informal feedback on team performance where appropriate.
  4. Participate actively in the Centre Management Team, taking a solution-focused approach to challenges, and as a manager being a key driver of enhancement activity within the centre.
  5. Plan and undertake regular personal development as agreed with line manager.
  6. Pro-actively seek out feedback from colleagues and actively engage with this in order to improve performance and grow as an academic leader.
  7. Strive to maintain a high standard of professionalism at all times, including in challenging situations showing the emotional resilience to work and manage under pressure.
  8. Pro-actively build effective working relationships with colleagues both in Centre and in the wider network.
  9. Prioritise and organise independently, effectively & efficiently managing own time and workload.
  10. Assist the Head of English to plan and oversee the design and delivery of all courses in the subject area, ensuring the best possible student outcomes and student experience.
  11. Liaise with the Central AES Curriculum, Assessment and Platform teams to implement the teaching and assessment for the module including managing the relevant technical platforms.
  12. Support the Head of English to allocate teaching resources in the subject area according to scheduling guidelines, ensuring that teaching and learning activities are planned and resources allocated according to set deadlines; and are planned and delivered within agreed budgets and meet operational margins.
  13. Support with the production of documentation for the subject area including course outlines, module handbooks, schemes of work, and teaching material.
  14. Coordinate the design and implementation of appropriate, fair, and secure assessment activities aligned to the centre assessment strategy on all courses within remit, and ensure all students receive effective assessment feedback.
  15. Teach up to 20 hours in agreement with the Head of Centre and/or Head of English.
  16. Work with the Student Experience Team to ensure lessons are appropriately covered when Tutors are absent.
  17. Coordinate the recording and reporting of teaching and assessment activity, including ensuring data is submitted accurately and within deadlines.
  18. Undertake any other duties as required from time to time by the Head of Centre or Head of English.
  19. Ensure that the design and delivery of all courses in the subject area are conducted with reference to and according to Study Group’s and relevant external agencies’ quality frameworks, policies, procedures, and codes of practice.
  20. Assist the Head of English to plan, oversee, and monitor the implementation of actions from the Centre Action Plan relevant to the subject area.
  21. Liaise with External Examiners for the subject area, providing information to External Examiners as required.
  22. Assist the Head of English to analyse, respond to, plan, and implement actions as a result of External Examiner feedback and recommendations.
  23. Support high levels of teaching and learning in subject areas, working with colleagues to monitor and observe teaching and learning activity, and supporting Tutors with continuous improvement of teaching and learning practices.
  24. Support high levels of automatic progression for students across all modules in the subject area.
  25. Analyse data and feedback from a wide variety of sources and monitor progress towards progression targets, working with the Head of Progression and Support to plan and implement remedial actions where necessary.
  26. Contribute to the production of the Annual Monitoring Report, Centre Action Plan, and other evaluative and reflective documents, for submission to the Study Group (Provider) and the University.
  27. Engage with, lead working groups within, and promote engagement with centre governance and formal quality enhancement activities.
  28. Participate in developing and maintaining effective relationships with key academic contacts at the University for the subject area, ensuring a full understanding of relevant University curriculum content, assessment modes, education strategy, and quality policies and procedures.
  29. Contribute to effective interaction between University staff and academic staff in the subject area to facilitate the best possible transition for students.
ABOUT YOU
  1. A Bachelor’s degree and a DELTA (or Equivalent) / Master’s or higher degree in an appropriate discipline
  2. Leadership and management training.
  3. Leadership and management experience in a teaching and learning environment
  4. Experience of leading a team to achieve high levels of student academic performance and outcomes against agreed targets
  5. Experience of teaching international students in UK higher or further education
  6. Experience of planning and running complex education courses in the subject area
  7. Experience driving change and building a continuous improvement culture
  8. Experience of teaching in the subject area
  9. Experience of partnership working in the education sector
  10. Experience of working with a Virtual Learning Environment and using Educational Technologies.
