About the role

Balfour Beatty is currently recruiting a Senior Structural Design Engineer to join their Power T&D team in Derby.

Role Purpose:

To deliver design calculations, engineering drawings, and documents that enable safe and constructable engineered solutions. Reports to the Design Delivery Manager - Structures.

What you'll be doing

Key Duties:

1. Lead structural engineer for complex projects as directed by the Design Delivery Manager - Structures.
2. Analyse contract documents to determine scope of works, design parameters/methodologies, engineering programme, and budget.
3. Ensure project delivery in accordance with scope, design parameters, programme, and budget.
4. Review designs and calculations by other engineers to ensure safety and compliance with contract documents and best practices.
5. Produce designs and calculations for review, ensuring manufacturability and safety, and that drawings accurately represent the design.
6. Practice Safety and Sustainability by Design, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations.
7. Assist in resolving complex design issues.
8. Communicate with internal teams, consultants, clients, and operational staff to ensure project alignment.
9. Visit sites and offices to discuss design issues and operational solutions.
10. Analyze tender documents to produce engineering tenders, including scope, tasks, costs, and risks.
11. Liaise with engineering managers and senior engineers.
12. Support the Chief Engineer - Structures in delivering technical improvements and innovations.
13. Deliver and undertake training as required.
14. Undertake other duties as assigned by the Design Delivery Manager - Structures.

Interacts with:

Internal design team, suppliers, construction teams, clients, CDM Principal Designer.

Who we're looking for

Qualifications & Skills:

1. Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
2. Excellent structural analysis skills, problem-solving from first principles.
3. Effective communication skills at all levels.
4. Knowledge of lattice structures.
5. Experience with BS EN standards and analysis software like Autodesk Robot, Bentley Staad Pro, PLS CADD/TOWER.
6. Working towards IEng/CEng.
