Job description

About the role

Looking for a rewarding surgical career in a breathtaking location?

“Generalism is our Specialism”, Manx Care provides a comprehensive general, colorectal and vascular surgical service to an isolated rural Island with a population of approximately 85,000. Join our team on the Isle of Man as a Consultant in General Surgery, delivering high-quality general, colorectal, and vascular surgical care in a well-supported environment. With strong links to leading UK teaching hospitals, you’ll work alongside a committed team dedicated to exceptional patient care.

As the Isle of Man is an isolated Island, our surgical Consultants cover a wide range of general surgical conditions so they can assess what can be done locally (without necessarily operating) and make decisions on when to transfer patients to specialised centres in the UK. In emergency life threatening situations, they may need to make surgical interventions on Island rather than transferring patients to the UK. Therefore, our general surgical doctors need to have basic general surgical skills to enable them to cover general surgery, as well as the out of hours general surgical parts of different specialities such as urology, vascular, thoracic, paediatric.

Use your expertise to lead clinics, manage trauma cases, and mentor junior doctors while advancing surgical services and research. Enjoy generous study leave, career progression, and an unmatched work-life balance in a truly unique setting. If you're ready for a role that values your expertise, supports your growth, and offers true professional fulfilment, apply now to take the next step in your surgical career!

A workplace that invests in you

A competitive salary that increases each 12 months until you reach the salary maximum.

Our on-site education and training centre, Keyll Darree, comprises a lecture theatre, well stocked medical library, training facilities and a state of the art simulation lab which is operated by trained simulation practitioners.

We recognise the need for all medical staff on the Island to maintain connections with medicine in the United Kingdom and encourage links with other units, as well as providing study leave with pay and expenses to attend approved conferences and workshops.

Ability to apply for an unpaid career break after 3 years’ service.

Access to the Isle of Man Public Service Cycle to Work scheme after your first year of employment.
