Detection Team Engineer (Cyber Security)

We are seeking to appoint a Cyber Security Engineer, based out of the UK, to join our InfoSec Detection Team. As a member of this team, you will report directly to the Detection Team Lead and provide security guidance, threat hunting, incident response capabilities, and enforce security best practices throughout NEC.

You will collaborate with the Detection Team, Response Team, and Architects, developing and maintaining NEC's security posture, aligned with government guidance and our accreditations. Your expertise will help investigate and remediate complex security risks with a focus on root cause analysis (RCA).

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaborate with teams to identify, assess, and investigate security issues using tools like XDR, SIEM, Proxy solutions, Email Threat platforms, and others.
  2. Monitor security events, prioritize risks, and take action to remediate operational security risks.
  3. Support investigations and incident responses.
  4. Assist in maintaining and developing our Privileged Access Management (PAM) platform, requiring knowledge of XML, Python, and RegEx.
  5. Work with Security Architects to implement new security capabilities and ensure compliance.
  6. Familiarize with ITIL processes including change, problem, and incident management.
  7. Maintain the NCSC's Cyber Security Essentials Plus accreditation.
Opportunities

Pre-employment Checks
  • Baseline Standard and Disclosure Scotland (BPSS).
  • Ability to achieve and maintain Security Clearance.
Qualifications

Essential:

  • Strong understanding of Windows Client/Server and Hypervisor technologies.
  • Experience with SIEM/XDR solutions.
  • Knowledge of attack chains, APTs, and the threat landscape.
  • Basic networking (DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls).
  • Basic Unix/Linux knowledge.
  • Public cloud awareness and security practices.
  • Eligibility for security clearance to MOD SC and NPPV Level 3.

Desirable:

  • Malware analysis skills.
  • Experience with Trend Micro, Nessus, managing PAM solutions.
  • Understanding of ITIL, CE+, and UK government cyber guidance.
  • Experience in a SOC or security team.
