Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils are seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to join our Finance Team based in Ipswich, Suffolk. This is a full-time, permanent position with a competitive salary of £51,802 - £61,059 per annum (pro rata for part-time).

About The Role

This role is a vital part of the Finance Management Team, responsible for key operational finance decisions. Reporting to the Head of Finance, your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the Financial Control team, overseeing three direct reports and supporting a wider team of eight
• Leading the preparation of the Statement of Accounts and transforming processes to strengthen internal controls
• Providing expert financial advice across the organization
• Developing and improving strategies, policies, and procedures
• Assisting in the development and reporting of Treasury, Capital, and Investment Strategies for both councils
• Collaborating with the Systems team to ensure timely financial reporting and self-service capabilities for managers

About You

• You are a fully qualified Accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW, CIPFA) with significant experience in finance, preferably within the public sector or a similar environment
• You have experience in corporate financial management, delivering Statement of Accounts under tight deadlines, and liaising effectively with external auditors
• You are an excellent communicator, skilled in reviewing business cases and providing financial advice
• You are comfortable working with people at all levels in a complex environment
• You have proven leadership skills, are personable, patient, and capable of motivating others
• You are focused on delivery, excellence, and continuous improvement
