Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant to join The Meadows. This is a 24/7 service with 24 beds available for the care of people over the age of 65. The Meadows is a busy unit, where a friendly and enthusiastic team aims to provide holistic assessment and treatment for older adults with dementia or organic mental health issues, caused by medical or physical diseases rather than psychiatric illness. The Meadows is located on the former West Park Hospital Site in Epsom.

As a healthcare assistant at The Meadows, you will help improve lives by ensuring the delivery of high-quality, caring services that contribute positively to the care pathway of patients admitted during the acute phase of their illness.

Your role involves providing physical and psychological care according to clinical care plans and supporting carers. You will assist the team in developing and achieving ward and organizational objectives, participate in staff meetings, and engage in training and development activities to keep your skills and knowledge current.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Observing, reporting, and recording changes in patients' physical, mental health, and behavior.
  2. Providing care to service users as planned in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
  3. Working in accordance with the principles of the Mental Health Act (MHA).
  4. Communicating clearly via telephone or in person.
  5. Providing physical care to assist with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, diet, clothing, environment, elimination, and supporting rest, sleep, and activity, including physical observations.
  6. Offering social activities, emotional support, and stability to service users while maintaining professional boundaries.
  7. Contributing to assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  8. Building and maintaining professional supportive relationships with colleagues, other professionals, and agencies to promote recovery.
  9. Carrying out escort duties under the direction of the nurse in charge.
  10. Participating in co-facilitation of therapeutic and social engagement group work as required.
  11. Undertaking prescribed physical observations (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight, height) and reporting results to the nurse in charge.
