Job description

Job Overview

The Group Facilitator is a fast-paced, highly rewarding, service user-facing role integral to the smooth running and holistic offer of care and treatment to service users at ARC Hounslow.

You will need to be creative and possess determination to continually improve and adapt the offers of therapeutic, recovery, and skill-based groups to promote recovery and independence among our service users.

We are looking for someone who has:
  • Good communication skills: verbal and written, English to GCSE or equivalent
  • Experience in facilitating groups and individual activities
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment
  • An understanding of the needs of service users with substance use issues
  • Experience of working/lived experience in substance use and/or mental health settings is an advantage

If so, there is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Group Facilitator, working alongside the Lead Group Facilitator, Senior Group Facilitator, Recovery Day Programme team, Nurses, Recovery Practitioners, Peer Support Workers, and a Consultant Psychiatrist at ARC Hounslow. You will work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to facilitate Psycho-Social Group interventions and other service user-centered activities.

Main duties of the job
CLINICAL:
  • To facilitate Psycho-Social based Group Work interventions for people experiencing substance use disorders
  • To engage service users in group work and promote a culture of hope and recovery
  • To support service users in identifying the most appropriate group work program to meet their needs
  • To work with local and regional mutual aid groups and community-based aftercare options
  • To develop and promote the group program at ARC Hounslow and the Recovery Day Programme
  • To assist service users in identifying their strengths, interests, and goals, supporting their recovery process
  • To ensure accurate documentation of all service user contacts and support administrative tasks
  • To support holistic recovery-oriented activities, including creative and arts-based approaches
COMMUNICATION:
  • To demonstrate effective communication skills and form positive relationships with warmth and empathy
  • To promote the role of the group work program within ARC Hounslow
  • To maintain professional relationships with confidentiality and boundaries

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

The Group Facilitator will work with the team to deliver evidence-based group interventions, including Motivational Interviewing, Relapse Prevention, Activity-based CBT, Positive Psychology, and Solution Focused interventions, supporting service users from contemplation to long-term recovery.

The role requires knowledge of therapies relevant to substance use disorders and experience in assessment, care planning, case management, risk assessment, and recovery interventions. The post promotes a coaching approach to help service users identify goals and develop recovery plans. Regular supervision and training opportunities are provided.

The role is based at ARC Hounslow, supporting social inclusion through therapeutic activities for service users with substance use issues.
