Job description

The Assistant Accountant provides support to the FC regarding fixed cost accounting and forecasting of the Powerlink UK business activities. The role aims to deliver efficient support for month-end accounting closure and reporting of fixed cost performance against budget and forecast to local business managers.

This role offers key support to the FC, and ad-hoc tasks will be assigned as needed to meet overall business requirements.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Become the focal point for cost centre accounting for the local Powerlink business, supporting managers on cost queries, variance analysis, and commentary on actual versus budget and forecast performance.
  2. Assist in the monthly forecasting process.
  3. Calculate and post month-end fixed cost accruals and prepayments.
  4. Calculate and post monthly project management time cost allocations.
  5. Perform balance sheet reconciliations.
  6. Review vendor accounts and clear unmatched items.
  7. Lead vendor clearing and cost allocation for vessel manager invoices.
  8. Prepare and publish monthly fixed cost performance reports.
  9. Attend weekly/monthly fixed cost review meetings as required.
  10. Maintain audit files for external and internal audits.
  11. Handle other business reporting and ad-hoc tasks as necessary.

The duties are not exhaustive, and the job holder may be asked to undertake additional reasonable duties.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

You should be an undergraduate, ideally studying a Finance or Business-related degree. You must work well in a team and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Essential qualities include:

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Excel, Access, and Word
  • Knowledge of pivot tables in Excel (training provided)
  • Numeracy skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
