Job summary

Dovetail and Slate is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager - Quality of Teaching and Learning to lead quality assurance and curriculum performance at HMP Brixton. Working with the Education Manager, you will drive staff development and ensure high standards across Functional Skills, PSD, and vocational programmes.

Qualifications

• A relevant First Degree or professional qualification plus a Level 5+ teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS).
• Significant teaching experience in Further Education, adult skills, or prison education settings.
• Experience in curriculum development, implementing quality assurance frameworks, and managing staff performance to drive educational improvement.
• Full UK Driving Licence and access to own transport.

Responsibilities

• Lead on-site quality improvement initiatives, developmental observations, and assessment audits to raise standards and meet key performance indicators across the department.
• Support the Education Manager with effective management and development of the curriculum, ensuring provision aligns with the needs of prison-based learners, awarding bodies, and post-release employers.
• Manage and mentor teaching staff, encouraging innovative, problem-solving pedagogical approaches to improve student retention, engagement, and qualification achievements.
• Implement robust quality systems and processes to monitor learner outcomes, ensuring continuous readiness for external inspections and internal audits.
• Work collaboratively with prison management, support practitioners, and external stakeholders to promote a whole-prison culture of educational excellence.
