Are you a qualified and HCPC registered Educational Psychologist or Year 3 Trainee Educational Psychologist looking to join a creative, friendly and supportive multi-disciplinary team?
The Schools and Community Psychology Service (SCPS) is a team of Psychologists, Trainee Psychologists, Systemic Family Therapists and Clinical Practitioners. As part of Wandsworth Council, you will join a key service contributing to work that aims to improve educational, social and mental health outcomes for children and young people living and being educated in Wandsworth. As part of our team, you will have a strong traded presence with our local schools as well as strong links with other teams and university organisations.
Our Offer
- Balanced and efficient workload – You will work within a team that maintains no EHCNA backlog and ensures statutory time remains at a manageable 30% of your overall allocation.
- Strong professional development and support – You will benefit from regular 1:1 and peer supervision, access to CPD and engagement in reflective practice, all within a psychologically informed department.
- Innovative and respected environment – You will be part of a dynamic, forward-thinking team with a great reputation, contributing to innovative practice and strategic work within Children’s Services.
About The Roles
Working sensitively and pro-actively with schools, families and young people, you will apply psychology at all levels to promote social and educational inclusion for children as well as promote anti-racism and anti-discriminatory practice across all aspects of the role.
One of the roles is linked to general main grade EP practice with a combination of schools commissioned work, statutory work and potential involvement with a variety of initiatives such as EBSNA training for schools, EBSNA interventions with young people, Children Centre’s work, Autism specific work and other additional duties based on experience and individual areas of interest.
The other role is split between working as a main grade EP (with both traded and statutory responsibilities) within the SCPS
and as a clinician within the Family Consultancy service at Wandsworth Access CAMHS at Springfield Hospital (between 0.4-0.6 FTE). The Family Consultancy multi-disciplinary CAMHS team provides Tier 2
brief family interventions based on consultation and systemic family therapy, CBT or other evidence-based therapies, as well as triage and assessment with a range of emotional, behavioural, mental health and neuro developmental presentations in 4.5–18-year-olds.
The Family Consultancy model is a strengths-based approach with consultation and multi-disciplinary partnerships at its core. It was created by Wandsworth Educational Psychologists in 2012 and has a long-established role in the local CAMHS offer.
Essential Qualifications, Skills And Experience
- You will be a qualified, HCPC registered Educational Psychologist or Year 3 Trainee Educational Psychologist (due to qualify by September 2025 and eligible for HCPC registration).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with creative thinking and ideas for offering an EP service as part of a dynamic and multi-talented team.
- Commitment to deliver psychology within the local authority context with commitment to consultation as a model of service delivery.
- Knowledge of and experience of working with parents and CYP that present with emotional and mental health needs.
- Experience in delivering a range of relevant psychological interventions (e.g., CBT, systemic work, groupwork and other interventions) with children, young people and families.
If you meet the above criteria and would like to make a difference by delivering a
high-quality, values driven service to children and young people in Wandsworth, we encourage you to apply for this opportunity.
