• The Educational Psychologist will work collaboratively with schools, families, and a range of professionals to support the educational, emotional, and psychological development of children and young people.

• The role involves the application of psychological theory and research to identify and overcome barriers to learning, improve outcomes, and promote inclusion.

• The postholder will undertake statutory responsibilities, including contributions to Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments, as well as provide consultation, assessment, intervention, and training as part of a traded or core service.

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

• Provide psychological consultation, assessment, and intervention for children and young people experiencing difficulties with learning, behaviour, and social or emotional development.

• Contribute to the statutory assessment process, offering psychological advice as part of Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments.

• Work collaboratively with schools, early years settings, families, and multi-agency professionals to promote positive outcomes and early intervention.

• Support schools and settings with strategies for inclusion, behaviour management, emotional wellbeing, and SEND provision.

• Deliver training, workshops, and capacity-building sessions for school staff, parents, and carers.

• Engage in action research, development projects, and service evaluation to inform and improve practice.

• Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records and reports in line with legal and professional standards.

• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team and contribute to team planning, peer supervision, and continuous professional development.

• Manage time effectively to balance statutory responsibilities with traded work and developmental activities.

Skills/Experience:

• Experience of working with children and young people across a range of educational settings.

• Strong knowledge of psychological theories relevant to education, learning, development, and emotional wellbeing.

• Understanding of SEND legislation, the Code of Practice, and statutory requirements relating to EHC plans.

• Excellent communication, consultation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• Ability to deliver high-quality written reports with clear, evidence-based recommendations.

• Commitment to inclusive education and the promotion of positive mental health.

• Proven ability to work autonomously and manage a varied caseload.

• Experience of using evidence-based interventions and tools in assessment and planning.

Additional Information:

• Postgraduate qualification in Educational Psychology (Doctorate or equivalent) and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
