Job Description:
Role Purpose

To promote the achievement and well-being of children and young people, especially those with Special Educational Needs and/or other barriers to their learning and development.

Locum Educational Psychologists working for the Borough EPS may deliver the full range of generic psychological services to schools, early years settings, and other practitioners, covering consultation, assessment, intervention, research, and training functions to support the development of pupil attainment and well-being. They are likely to focus on fulfilling the EPS’s statutory duties.

Responsibilities
  • To provide high-quality advice to the local authority, including statutory psychological advice, as required by the SEN legislation and Code of Practice (September 2014).
  • To advise the local authority about the needs of children and young people in the context of appeals to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal (SENDisT) and to give evidence at hearings where required.
  • To deliver a targeted and specialist psychological service of consultation, assessment (including psychometric approaches where appropriate), advice, planning, and development work to a designated group of schools ('patch') to positively impact clients including head teachers, teachers, parents/carers, pupils, and practitioners.
  • To provide consultation, staff development, and training to ensure schools and early years staff have the necessary knowledge and skills to support all students, including those with SEN and other barriers.
  • To monitor and evaluate interventions used in schools both quantitatively and qualitatively, and share examples of good practice.
  • To contribute to analysis of the outcomes achieved by the Borough Educational Psychology Service through annual feedback surveys.
  • To collaborate with colleagues to develop policies and evidence-based practices that improve social and learning opportunities for children and young people, raising standards across Borough schools.
  • To maintain ongoing professional development in psychology and education to perform duties effectively.
