Job summary

Civic Recruitment Limited is seeking an Educational Psychologist for a 3-month contract with a local authority. The role involves conducting statutory assessments and producing Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment advice to support decisions affecting children with SEND.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible workload.
  • Experience undertaking commissioned statutory assessment work for authorities.
  • Experience across educational settings and age groups.
  • Knowledge of current educational psychology practice and SEND developments.

3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose

The Educational Psychologist will undertake statutory educational psychology assessments for children and young people as part of the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) process. The role involves conducting face-to-face assessments, gathering and analysing psychological and educational information, and producing high-quality statutory advice to support informed decision-making and positive outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct face-to-face psychological assessments for children and young people undergoing statutory Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments.
  • Gather, analyse, and interpret information from a range of sources, including educational settings, families, professionals, and assessment findings.
  • Produce clear, evidence-based psychological advice and reports in accordance with statutory requirements and agreed timescales.
  • Identify strengths, needs, and recommendations to support educational progress, wellbeing, and inclusion.
  • Liaise effectively with parents, carers, schools, and multi-agency professionals throughout the assessment process.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with professional, ethical, and legal standards.
  • Ensure all assessments and reports are completed to a high professional standard and within agreed deadlines.
  • Contribute specialist psychological expertise to support decision-making within the statutory assessment process.
Requirements
  • Qualification in Educational Psychology recognised by the relevant professional body.
  • Registration with the appropriate regulatory body to practise as an Educational Psychologist.
  • Experience completing statutory assessments and producing Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment advice.
  • Strong assessment, analytical, and report-writing skills.
  • Knowledge of SEND legislation, guidance, and statutory assessment processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a flexible workload.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, child-centred assessments.
  • Previous experience undertaking commissioned statutory assessment work for local authorities.
  • Experience working across a range of educational settings and age groups.
  • Knowledge of current educational psychology practice and SEND developments.
Additional Information
  • Location: Face-to-face assessments only (location as agreed with the employer)
  • Hours per Week: Flexible working arrangement across the working week
  • Pay Frequency: Bi-weekly payments (every two weeks)
