Job summary

Field Studies Council Margam Discovery Centre is seeking an experienced Team Leader to guide an education team, deliver curriculum-aligned learning experiences, and assist with strategic management of the centre.

The role combines management, teaching and operation responsibilities in a beautiful countryside setting, with a permanent full-time contract and a starting salary around £33,357 per year.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline required.
• At least 5 years relevant work experience with the ability to produce teaching resources, activities and lesson plans meeting curricular requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the education team, providing guidance, mentoring, performance management and professional development.
• Develop, plan and oversee high-quality curriculum-linked learning experiences that increase students’ understanding of nature and the environment.
• Support the Centre Manager in day-to-day operations and contribute to strategic planning.
• Participate in hands-on teaching in the field with students of various ages on science and geography programmes.
• Be part of the duty rota, staying on site evenings and overnight to handle customer issues and emergencies.

In this senior role, you’ll manage and mentor a passionate education team, oversee curriculum delivery, and contribute to the strategic management of the centre alongside the Centre Manager.

Develop, plan, and oversee the delivery of high-quality curriculum-linked learning experiences that increase students’ understanding of nature and the environment.

Support the Centre Manager in running the day-to-day operations of the centre and contribute to strategic planning.

Participate in some hands‑on teaching in the field, working with students of all ages on a variety of science and geography programmes.

This role also forms part of our duty rota which will involve staying on site on some evenings and overnight to deal with customer issues and respond to emergencies.

As a key member of the senior on‑call team you will also provide support to other duty staff.

We are seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record of managing and developing teams, with:

• Degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
• At least 5 years relevant work experience, with the confidence to produce and prepare teaching resources, activities and lesson plans that meet curricular requirements

• A strong work ethic and pride in the quality of your work
• A flexible, adaptive approach, able to work independently and as part of a team
• A professional manner and empathy with the Field Studies Council’s mission
