Job summary

Field Studies Council is seeking a Team Leader for Margam Discovery Centre. You will lead the education team, mentor staff, oversee curriculum delivery, and assist in strategic centre management with the Centre Manager.

The role is a permanent full-time contract, typically 37.5 hours per week, with variation through busy periods. Starting salary is circa £33,357 per annum.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline.
• At least 5 years relevant work experience with teaching resources and lesson plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the education team with performance management and development.
• Develop and oversee high-quality curriculum-linked learning experiences.
• Support the Centre Manager in daily operations and strategic planning.
• Participate in hands-on teaching in field programmes with students of various ages.
• Be on duty rota, including some evenings and overnight on-site to handle issues.

We're looking for an experienced Team Leader with proven management experience to join Field Studies Council Margam Discovery Centre. In this senior role, you'll manage and mentor a passionate education team, oversee curriculum delivery, and contribute to the strategic management of the centre alongside the Centre Manager.

Permanent full-time contract - average 37.5 hours per week

Weekly hours may vary - more during busy periods, less during quieter times.

Starting salary is circa £33,357 per annum

In this senior role, you will:

• Lead and manage the education team, providing guidance, mentoring, performance management, and professional development.
• Develop, plan, and oversee the delivery of high-quality curriculum-linked learning experiences that increase students' understanding of nature and the environment.
• Support the Centre Manager in running the day-to-day operations of the centre and contribute to strategic planning.
• Participate in some hands-on teaching in the field, working with students of all ages on a variety of science and geography programmes.
• This role also forms part of our duty rota which will involve staying on site on some evenings and overnight to deal with customer issues and respond to emergencies. As a key member of the senior on-call team you will also provide support to other duty staff.

We are seeking an experienced leader with a proven track record of managing and developing teams, with:

• Degree or equivalent in an appropriate discipline
• At least 5 years relevant work experience, with the confidence to produce and prepare teaching resources, activities and lesson plans that meet curricular requirements

You will also have:

• A strong work ethic and pride in the quality of your work
• A flexible, adaptive approach, able to work independently and as part of a team
• A professional manner and empathy with the Field Studies Council's mission
• Commitment to personal development and motivation to take on new challenges
