Job description

Advert

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to undertake a key leadership role within our high-performing Education Provision and Resources team at a time of exciting developments.

We are seeking an individual who thrives on challenge and embraces opportunities to learn, develop and improve. You will be adaptable, responsive and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly. Able to think on your feet, you will exercise sound judgement, respond positively to emerging issues and develop practical solutions to problems.

With a proactive approach and the confidence to constructively challenge established thinking, you will build strong relationships, influence others effectively and drive continuous improvement.

Importantly, you will be someone who takes ownership, is willing to step forward when challenges arise and has the confidence and determination to resolve issues to a successful conclusion.

An effective and confident communicator, you will be equally comfortable presenting information in writing and verbally to colleagues, senior leaders, elected members and customers. You will demonstrate initiative, innovation and sound judgement, while maintaining positive and productive relationships with stakeholders across Education and wider Council services. Adaptable to change and capable of performing under pressure, you will successfully balance competing priorities and provide assured leadership in situations that challenge critical service delivery.

The successful candidate will lead and contribute to a diverse portfolio of strategic and operational work, supporting the Education Department and its establishments across estate management, facilities management services, health and safety, and business continuity and emergency planning.

The postholder will play a key role in proactively engaging with, influencing and challenging internal Council services and external partners to drive continuous improvement in the education estate, ensuring it remains fit for purpose, meets stakeholder needs and provides the best possible learning environments for children and young people.

You will have well developed demonstrable project management experience, ideally within school estates and/or facilities management, together with an understanding of contract monitoring and performance management. Experience of PPP/PFI contracts would be advantageous, but not essential.

The successful candidate will bring leadership and people management experience, with the ability to lead, support and develop a small team of experienced senior soft Facilities Management professionals. The postholder will provide strategic direction, oversight and challenge, ensuring that operational activity aligns with wider departmental priorities and long-term objectives. The ability to empower experienced colleagues, foster collaboration and drive continuous improvement through influence, vision and effective leadership will be essential.

As part of the recruitment process, if you are selected for interview, you will be asked to undertake an assessment task which may take form of a presentation or written task.

Additional Information

Hybrid employees are considered workplace based first, but they will have a level of flexibility to work from home up to 40% of their working week, if it is not to the detriment of their current tasks, team requirements or service needs.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. It is an offence therefore to apply if you are barred from working with children and protected adults.
