Education Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP), Band 5 in Mental Health Support Teams (MHST)

As an Education Mental Health Practitioner, you will work under supervision as part of a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment that encourages evidence-based interventions, new ideas, innovative ways of working, and supporting children and young people. Offering a Whole School Approach is integral to this role.

This approach requires flexibility and working within educational settings. We support CPD and will continue to help you develop your skills. You will utilize your skills through direct individual and group work to support children, young people, and their parents.

There will be opportunities to collaborate with children, young people, and their families to support co-production and meaningful participation in service development.

We will consider CWPs and PWPs with appropriate experience or transferable skills.

You need to evidence BABCP or BACP registration or demonstrate that this has been applied for.

The Education Mental Health Practitioner Role Will:
  • Work closely with a team of mental health professionals delivering a range of evidence-informed interventions.
  • Use developed evidence-based skills to work directly with children, young people, and families.
  • Carry out holistic and child-centered mental health assessments, including risk assessments, employing evidence-based techniques.
  • Facilitate parenting programs using evidence-based approaches.
The Education Mental Health Practitioner Is Required To:
  • Hold the relevant EMHP Post Graduate Diploma following CYP IAPT approved training in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children and Young People (C&Y IAPT), or have a Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP) CYP-IAPT qualification.
  • Demonstrate evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to learning.
  • Have experience working with children, young people, their families, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience working with children and young people with social, emotional, and/or mental health difficulties.
