Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a dynamic Governor Support and Development Officer to help governing boards strengthen governance, policy compliance and school improvement.

You'll deliver training to governors, trustees, clerks and school leaders, build strong stakeholder relationships, and promote safeguarding as a governance priority.

This fixed-term, two-year role offers a county location with flexible working options and opportunities to contribute to education outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience of supporting, advising or working with governing boards, committees, trustees, school leaders, or other stakeholder groups, with a good understanding of governance principles, accountability, and statutory responsibilities within education.
• Williness to attend appropriate training and development and knowledge of the education sector and safeguarding responsibilities.
• Experience of planning, developing, and delivering training, briefings, or development programmes, adapting content for diverse audiences and evaluating impact.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and guidance, and to build professional relationships.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills, including managing multiple priorities, coordinating meetings and deadlines.
• Demonstrable ability to provide high-quality advice, support and problem-solving with discretion and confidentiality.
• Proficiency in using digital systems and Microsoft Office applications, with a commitment to continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice, guidance and practical support to governors, trustees, clerks, and school leaders to fulfil statutory responsibilities and contribute to school improvement.
• Lead and deliver high-quality training and development programmes for governors and governance professionals.
• Champion high-quality governance across schools and academies and strengthen strategic leadership and accountability.
• Promote safeguarding as a governance priority and ensure compliance with statutory requirements and national guidance.
• Develop and share governance intelligence, resources and communications for governors to stay informed on changes and best practice.
