Job summary

JCB is seeking an experienced EDS Harness Engineer to support design, development and release of Electrical Distribution Systems across a range of off-highway products.

You’ll manage harness architecture, routing, packaging and design release activities, collaborating with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and supplier teams to deliver robust, manufacturable harness solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in EDS, wiring harness or electrical systems engineering.
• Experience in automotive, commercial vehicle, agricultural, construction equipment or mobile machinery industries.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop vehicle wiring harnesses and EDS architectures from concept through to production.
• Create and maintain schematic diagrams, wiring documentation, harness drawings and BOMs using Zuken E3.
• Develop 3D harness routing, packaging and installation solutions using Siemens NX.
• Ensure harness designs meet functional, quality, cost, manufacturing and serviceability requirements.
• Support electrical system integration and vehicle-level validation activities.
• Perform design reviews, tolerance assessments and packaging studies.
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve design and quality issues.
• Deliver accurate electrical schematics and harness documentation.
• Develop fully integrated 3D harness routing models.
• Support on-time design releases in line with programme milestones.

About the role:

At JCB Heavy Products, we’re looking for an experienced EDS Harness Engineer to support the design, development and release of Electrical Distribution Systems (EDS) and wiring harnesses across a range of off-highway products.

You’ll be responsible for harness architecture, routing, packaging and design release activities, working closely with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and supplier teams. A key requirement of this role is proven experience using Zuken E3 and Siemens NX for harness design, development and integration within complex vehicle environments.

What does this role involve day to day?

• Design and develop vehicle wiring harnesses and EDS architectures from concept through to production.
• Create and maintain schematic diagrams, wiring documentation, harness drawings and bills of materials using Zuken E3.
• Develop 3D harness routing, packaging and installation solutions using Siemens NX.
• Ensure harness designs meet functional, quality, cost, manufacturing and serviceability requirements.
• Support electrical system integration and vehicle-level validation activities.
• Perform design reviews, tolerance assessments and packaging studies.
• Liaise with component suppliers and manufacturing teams to resolve design and quality issues.
• Support prototype build activities, vehicle testing and production implementation.
• Manage engineering changes through established change control processes.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and JCB engineering processes.
• Deliver accurate electrical schematics and harness documentation.
• Develop fully integrated 3D harness routing models.
• Support on-time design releases in line with programme milestones.
• Deliver robust, manufacturable and serviceable harness solutions.
• Support the effective resolution of design and build issues.

This will be suited to you if...

• You have proven experience in Electrical Distribution System (EDS) or wiring harness design.
• You have a strong understanding of vehicle electrical architectures and CAN communication networks.
• You can confidently interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
• You have knowledge of harness manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacture principles.
• You have experience with PLM and change management processes.
• You hold a Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
• You have a minimum of three years' experience in EDS, wiring harness or electrical systems engineering.
• You have experience within automotive, commercial vehicle, agricultural, construction equipment or other mobile machinery industries.
• You have a proven track record of delivering harness designs from concept through production release.
• You possess strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• You are an effective communicator who can work across multidisciplinary teams.
• You are self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• You have excellent attention to detail and a commitment to engineering excellence.
• You are comfortable working in a fast-paced product development environment.

You are highly proficient in Zuken E3, including:

• Schematic creation
• Harness design
• Connectivity management
• Wiring documentation
• BOM generation

You are highly proficient in Siemens NX, including:

• 3D harness routing
• Packaging studies
• Assembly integration
• CAD modelling

Even better if...

• You have experience with off-highway vehicle electrical systems.
• You are familiar with ISO 13849, EMC requirements and functional safety principles.
• You have knowledge of Teamcenter or other CAD/PLM systems.
• You have an understanding of vehicle diagnostics and telematics systems.
• You have experience supporting prototype and production builds.
