Job summary

Stantec in Edinburgh is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead and govern the design of a multi-decade water and wastewater infrastructure programme in Scotland. You will coordinate across process, civil, and civil/structural disciplines, engaging Scottish Water and partners, and guiding junior engineers.

You will own technical standards, drive digital delivery, and contribute to work-winning efforts while leading a team of engineers within a supportive, hybrid Edinburgh office.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering with recognised professional status.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent is expected.
• Extensive experience leading UK water and wastewater infrastructure design.
• Proven ability to govern multi-disciplinary design teams and budgets.
• Familiarity with CDM regulations and safety leadership.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and governance across major water projects.
• Lead multidisciplinary design teams across process, civil, structural, and others.
• Engage clients and partners, shaping fee proposals and bid strategies.
• Mentor engineers and drive technical excellence within the Edinburgh team.
• Manage design scope, risk, resourcing, and programme milestones.
