Job summary

Mane Contract Services in Barnsley is seeking a reliable General Operative to assist with maintenance, repair, refurbishment and painting of edge-protection barriers on site. You will ensure equipment is safe, serviceable and presentable while following health and safety procedures.

The role involves helping with cleaning, lifting heavy materials, preparing surfaces, organising materials for site deliveries and supporting stock control.

Qualifications

• Prior experience in labouring, maintenance or similar role is desirable but not essential.
• Ability to follow instructions and carry out practical tasks.
• Confidence in using tools and equipment safely.
• Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
• Willingness to work in different weather conditions when required.
• Good understanding of health and safety practices.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
• Reliable, punctual and hardworking, with a positive attitude towards work.

Responsibilities

• Carry out cleaning and general housekeeping duties.
• Safely handle, lift and transport heavy materials and equipment.
• Undertake general operative and maintenance tasks.
• Maintain, repair and paint edge-protection barriers for site delivery.
• Prepare surfaces, including cleaning, sanding and other preparation work before painting.
• Prepare, organise and assemble materials and equipment kits for site deliveries.
• Assist with stock control and ensuring materials and equipment are stored correctly.
• Work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines.
• Follow all relevant health and safety regulations and safe working practices.
• Keep the work area clean, tidy and organised.
