This role will work within our department, which is an innovative team that will build and deploy leading AI-driven solutions to improve workflows common across both Parexel and the life sciences industry. The team partners and supports the business in building best-in-class AI-driven solutions when nothing suitable exists.

This role is based in location and will be remote/on-site. You will be working in an innovative and collaborative environment with international peers, colleagues, and a supportive manager.

As the Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of AI Labs’ software applications. In this role, you will work closely with other application engineers to architect, build, and optimize scalable and resilient data systems to meet the growing needs of end users. You will also write, test, and release backend and/or frontend code according to the product roadmap and release plans. Finally, you will work collaboratively with the Product Owner and Software Quality Assurance to set the overall goals and sprint plans.

Key Accountabilities:

• Collaborate with other engineers to design, implement, and document new software engineering techniques and strategies.
• Develop back-end / server-side software to serve application requests, query databases, and format and deliver data.
• Develop front-end software and user experiences using the latest application programming frameworks, libraries, and languages.
• Design and implement performant APIs between applications and our data warehouse.
• Understand customer, product, and user requirements to develop, test, and ship software applications that meet their needs.
• Build internal frameworks, libraries, and infrastructure to improve software architecture and to allow for rapid prototyping and new product delivery.
• Design high-quality, effective data stores to support our applications.
• Own the complete lifecycle of application databases for a product, including user management, DDL, permissions, performance tuning, and backups.
• Collaborate with data scientists, NLP engineers, clinical annotators, and product managers to build and maintain roadmaps, and implement best practices.
• Create and maintain application documentation to enable other engineers and data scientists to utilize the stack.
• Review and improve the code of other engineers to enhance quality and security.
• Work with product management and quality assurance to test and validate completed features and bug fixes before deployment.
• Create unit tests, end-to-end tests, performance tests, and automated tests to ensure high code quality.
• Collaborate with Product Management to define and implement features to satisfy customer and user requirements.
• Partner with other engineers to maintain quality work and anticipate problems.
• Participate in sprint planning and check-in meetings to identify customer needs, potential roadblocks, and solutions.
• Bring new ideas to the table and foster a culture of continuous integration.

Education:

Degree in engineering, computer science, or relevant qualification/experience.

Skills:

• Strong CS fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
• Experience with database technologies including ElasticSearch and SQL.
• Ability to monitor database uptime and performance.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Flexible attitude towards work assignments and learning.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with enthusiasm and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work in a matrix environment valuing teamwork.

Knowledge and Experience:

• Senior Software Engineering, Full Stack Development, or Programming experience.
• Experience with DevOps, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes.
• Designing applications with RESTful JSON API endpoints.
• Experience with schema and data migrations in multi-tenant environments (desirable).
• Experience with HIPAA-protected data (desirable).
• Experience with tools like JIRA, Confluence, Jenkins, Git, Github, Sumologic, AWS S3, AWS Lambda, AWS EKS, Terraform (desirable).
