Job description

Job Description

We promise more than a job—we offer a career you can build.

1 – Who We Are

We’re the UK branch of ABMI, a French engineering consulting group with over 35 years of experience delivering high-level expertise in critical industries like nuclear energy, aerospace, and transportation. We specialize in specific sectors, which makes all the difference.

ABMI is known for its deep technical knowledge and ability to adapt its skills to new sectors. Our strength lies in focusing on core expertise. In the UK, we apply our nuclear expertise to projects with EDF, a long-standing client supported in France. This trust has enabled us to expand into the UK market.

We’re committed to delivering tailored engineering solutions that drive results. Our consulting mindset aligns with our partners’ challenges, bringing the right people, tools, and strategies to move projects forward.

Our core values are expertise, integrity, and care for people, with our consultants at the heart of everything we do.

2 – What You’ll Do

About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will specify, coordinate, and integrate mechanical systems within a highly regulated nuclear environment. Your role ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards, collaborating across design, procurement, and construction phases—particularly on large-scale projects like SZC or HPC.

Key responsibilities :

  • Coordinate activities throughout tendering, including clarification meetings, bid assessments, and contract surveillance.
  • Lead regular technical and progress meetings with contractors.
  • Provide internal reporting to the RD and client on progress, risks, issues, and timelines.
  • Manage design-related risks, including early warnings and variation requests.
  • Oversee interfaces between contractors, clients, and stakeholders to ensure successful contract delivery aligned with schedules and specifications.
  • Coordinate configuration management activities, including Contract Transfer Sheets, Design Modifications, and Referential Evolution Requests.
  • Organise and monitor surveillance activities, drafting the Surveillance Programme Organisation Note and the Annual Surveillance Report.
  • Address technical issues and queries as they arise.
3 – Why Join Us?

At ABMI UK, we combine the strength of a European engineering group with the agility of a human-sized team. Based in Bristol and growing, we offer meaningful opportunities from the ground up.

We are a consulting company, not a recruitment agency—your expertise truly matters, and your voice shapes our future. We understand what matters most to engineers:

  • Gaining real technical experience on large-scale projects
  • Working in a supportive environment that values learning, collaboration, and curiosity
  • Access to clear career paths with opportunities for leadership or technical roles
  • Personalized support to develop skills, expand knowledge, and reach professional goals

We see your career as a journey—and we’re here to walk it with you.

4 – Who You Are

Essential

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or Scientific Discipline
  • Experience in contract management and documentation surveillance
  • Understanding of Equipment interfaces (pipework, supports, fluids, safety case, systems engineering)
  • Knowledge of Nuclear Mechanical Equipment Design, manufacturing, and Operations
  • Understanding of relevant Health and Safety regulations

Nice to have

  • Experience with the SZC or HPC projects
  • Experience in the nuclear sector
