Job description

Automation Coder

National salary £30,000 - £40,000

London salary £40,000 - £50,000

Are you someone with experience in writing code to solve problems or automate solutions? Do you want to apply your skills to a new environment and perhaps learn a new language?

If so, this is the role for you!

We are looking for an Automation Coder to join our supportive and growing team. No actuarial or financial experience is necessary for this role. In fact, it could provide the ideal opportunity for someone with a different background to learn about the insurance sector.

Aviva has introduced “smart-working” and the person in this role would ideally be based in Norwich, but could potentially be based anywhere in the UK, as long as they are comfortable regularly travelling to our Norwich office twice a month.

A bit about the job:

The role will involve working in a Finance innovation team to build tools and improve processes in the wider Finance and Actuarial areas. Our tools are developed using R, Power Platform, Unify and more.

Tasks can be tailored to the individual, but could include:

  1. Improving existing processes, and re-implementing existing Excel processes
  2. Designing and building apps
  3. Giving guidance to novice and intermediate coders to improve standards across the team
  4. Presenting complex data in useful ways
  5. Liaising with business users to make sure any output meets business needs
  6. Training business users in any new tools

Skills and experience we’re looking for:

  1. Experience of writing high quality code
  2. The ability to work collaboratively with business users and other coders
  3. Support the delivery of good customer outcomes through all activities and deliverables, enabling us to act in good faith towards customers, avoid causing foreseeable harm and enable and support our customers to pursue their financial objectives.

What you’ll get for this role:

Our purpose - with you today, for a better tomorrow – is a promise we make to our colleagues too. And one of the ways we live up to that promise is by investing in you. We have so much to offer when it comes to being an Aviva colleague.

  1. National salary £30,000 - £40,000, London salary £40,000 - £50,000 (depending on location, skills, experience, and qualifications)
  2. Bonus opportunity - 8% of annual salary Actual amount depends on your performance and Aviva’s.
  3. Generous pension scheme - Aviva will contribute up to 14%, depending on what you put in.
  4. 29 days holiday plus bank holidays, and you can choose to buy or sell up to 5 days
  5. Make your money go further - Up to 40% discount on Aviva products, and other retailer discounts
  6. Up to £1,200 of free Aviva shares per year through our Matching Share Plan and share in the success of Aviva with our Save As You Earn scheme
  7. Brilliantly supportive policies including parental and carer’s leave
  8. Flexible benefits to suit you, including sustainability options such as cycle to work
  9. Make a difference, be part of our Aviva Communities and use your 3 paid volunteering days to help others
  10. We take your wellbeing seriously with lots of support and tools

Aviva is for everyone:

We’re inclusive and welcome everyone – we want applications from all backgrounds and experiences. Excited but not sure you tick every box? Even if you don’t, we would still encourage you to apply. We also consider all forms of flexible working, including part time and job shares.

We flex locations, hours and working patterns to suit our customers, business, and you. Most of our people are smart working – spending around 50% of their time in our offices every week - combining the benefits of flexibility, with time together with colleagues.
