Job Role/Title:

Project Engineer – HV

Line Manager:

Principal Engineer

Description of Role:

Project engineer reporting directly to the Principal Electrical Engineer. Providing engineering & technical support for all operational aspects engineering works performed in business execution. Working within the engineering support team; providing technical solutions & procedures for all HV & fibre optic operations within Group.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Understanding specialist legislation (standards and regulations) in the Electrical Engineering & Fibre Optic field and develop plans & procedures to achieve and maintain full compliance for the group.
  • To ensure adherence to the necessary electrical / fibre optic safety and technical standards for the Group.
  • Implement the required engineering standards and best practice techniques for electrical / fibre optic works, taking responsibility for meeting industry recognised standards and client requirements.
  • Contribute towards improving technical and operational procedures used within the group.
  • To provide electrical / fibre optic technical support and guidance for the group functions ensuring compliance throughout the business.
  • Operational understanding of all specialist electrical / fibre optic test equipment used within the Group.
  • Monitor, review, and critique all test equipment used in the Group operational activities. Analyse for suitability, performance and reliability of different manufacturers models. Support the equipment hire department, with recommendations for selection of equipment in terms of excellence, reliability and maintenance.
  • Ensure electrical test equipment is in good working order.
  • Provide specialist functional electrical / fibre optic training to the operational personnel.
  • Assist in the development of training courses and testing regimes.
  • Support the Group in providing technical expertise for client technical clarifications during tender, project life cycle and business development opportunities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Supporting operational projects throughout the project life cycle.
  • Scheduled out of office hours support, during testing phases on projects.
  • Scheduled on site support during project life cycle. (Where required)

Skills, Qualifications & Experience Requirements:

Degree qualified or have significant professional technical experience (minimum of five years) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering.

City & Guilds Level 3 qualified in Fibre Optics Installation and Testing or professional technical experience (minimum of five years) in Fibre Optic Systems.

Have a thorough understanding and knowledge of electrical / fibre optic test equipment, HV & LV distribution systems, Switchgear, Protection systems.

Experience is required in the following areas associated with electrical systems:

  • Installation, Maintenance and Testing of Electrical and Fibre optic systems.
  • Technical report writing.
  • Interfaces with external personnel including clients and supply authorities.

Strong communication skills at all levels of the organisation. Minimum safety qualification of IOSH Managing Safely.
