Job description

Reporting to the Bid Excellence Director, the Bid Writing Lead will be responsible for managing, mentoring, and coaching Bid Writers within the Bid Excellence team to develop high-quality content for bids and proposals, with a focus on continuous improvement in bid quality. This role involves both day-to-day line management and oversight and review of bids produced by the team.

This is a networked role requiring the ability to work under pressure and meet challenging deadlines.

Main Duties
  1. Provide team leadership and oversight for Senior Bid Writers and Bid Writers.
  2. Ensure all team members understand their roles, responsibilities, and deliverables. Monitor individual progress and performance, intervening as necessary to maintain the planned progress of bid content.
  3. Maintain awareness of the workload within the bid writing team, including key details of each in-flight opportunity.
  4. Support the Bid Excellence Director in reviewing and improving bid development practices across Mitie to enhance bid quality.
  5. Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to support bid team members in delivering high-quality bids, focusing on continuous improvement.
  6. Lead the bid team in implementing bid procedures and processes aligned with Mitie methodology, ensuring proper governance.
  7. Collaborate closely with all bid stakeholders, especially the Solutions Director and sales team, to ensure each bid is compelling and capable of winning.
  8. Conduct detailed quality reviews to ensure bids are compelling, commercially attractive, and competitive.
  9. Work with senior bid team colleagues to manage team resources and capacity effectively.
  10. Keep up-to-date with market trends and organize supporting materials efficiently.
  11. Proactively contribute written content for major or strategic bid opportunities as part of the core bid team.
What we are looking for
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in bid writing and management, preferably within the FM sector.
  • Previous experience in line management and team leadership.
  • Strong written English skills demonstrated through extensive bid writing experience.
  • Skilled in providing feedback and coaching to bid writers and content developers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and influencing skills, including at senior levels.
  • Strong presentation skills, adaptable to different audiences and outcomes.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, able to work independently under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Certified to APMP Foundation level (desirable).
