Job Description
The UK Defense Solutions Centre is seeking an Economist to join the Prosperity & Economic Data Team. Candidates must have a Degree in Economics and will suit an individual with a desire to work on joint industry/government funded projects who thrives in a collaborative environment engaging with external economists in industry and government departments.
All applicants must be British and dual nationality must be declared. (This is a pre-requisite for reasons of Security).
- WFH 3 days per week. 9 Day fortnight.

Economist Responsibilities:
- Retrospective analysis and reporting on historical data.
- Design and delivery of surveys to primes within the defence industry and Govt Depts.
- Support the management and development of the Joint Economic Data Hub.
- Focus on the production and development of the Annual Economic Report.
- Produce in-year case studies and reports focusing on emerging themes in the defence industry (domestic and international).
- Manage analysis projects supporting the company's Customer Work Plan.
- Utilise and exploit a range of toolsets for data gathering, specifically the development and distribution of surveys to member organisations.
- Provide stakeholders with informed and insightful briefing material that is accessible to audiences without an economic background.
- Analyze drivers in defence-related academic research and investment in Science and Technology.
- Support the development and implementation of new data gathering approaches – network with member companies to identify existing data sources.
- Manage and support the rollout of new visualisation methods and technologies.
- Support the curation and evolution of the Shared Information Space.
- Challenge perceptions, ensure best practice, and maintain consistency of material.
- Ensure data protection is managed in accordance with policy and procedure.
Essential Personal Attributes for the Economist role:
- A UK citizen to achieve the required Security Clearance (dual nationality must be declared for security reasons).
- Ability to work in Farnborough, Hampshire 2 days a week (within a reasonable commute, e.g., 1 hour).
- Economics Degree or Masters with at least 24 months experience in an economics-related role.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and present quantitative economic data using key economic theories and models with an interest in retrospective analysis.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to critically appraise and summarize economic evidence.
- Strong desire to explore different communication techniques and message projection methods.
- Interest in research, data collection, and creative reporting of information.
- Experience in writing reports and briefings.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in numerical data checking.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in multi-stakeholder environments.
