Job description

Job Opportunity: Economist

Working for a leading provider of economic and capability data for the Defence industry, this position offers a varied and interesting role. It is ideal for someone eager to work on joint industry/government funded projects within a collaborative environment, engaging with external economists in industry and government departments.

Work Arrangement: WFH 3 days per week, 9-day fortnight.
Location: Must live within a 60-90 minute commute of Farnborough, Hampshire.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Retrospective analysis and reporting on historical data.
  2. Design and delivery of surveys to primes within the defence industry and government departments.
  3. Support the management and development of the Joint Economic Data Hub.
  4. Focus on the production and development of the Annual Economic Report.
  5. Produce in-year case studies and reports on emerging themes in the defence industry (domestic and international).
  6. Manage analysis projects supporting the company's Customer Work Plan.
  7. Utilise various tools for data gathering, including survey development and distribution.
  8. Provide stakeholders with clear, insightful briefing materials suitable for audiences without an economic background.
  9. Analyze drivers in defence-related academic research and investment in Science and Technology.
  10. Support the development of new data gathering approaches by networking with member companies.
  11. Manage and support the rollout of new visualization methods and technologies.
  12. Contribute to the curation and evolution of the Shared Information Space.
  13. Challenge perceptions, promote best practices, and ensure material consistency.
  14. Ensure data protection aligns with policies and procedures.
Essential Personal Attributes:
  • UK citizen with the ability to obtain Security Clearance; dual nationality must be declared.
  • Ability to work in Farnborough, Hampshire, 2 days per week (within a reasonable commute).
  • Economics Degree or Masters with at least 24 months of relevant experience.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and present quantitative economic data using key theories and models, with an interest in retrospective analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills to critically assess and summarize economic evidence.
  • Desire to explore various communication techniques for message projection.
  • Interest in research, data collection, and creative reporting.
  • Experience in writing reports and briefings.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in numerical data checking.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Proven collaborative skills in multi-stakeholder environments.
