Job summary

Barnsley Council is seeking a Business Support Officer to join the Economic Development team to help run markets, events and promotional activity across Barnsley Town Centre and principal towns. You will work with independent traders, process street trading applications, and support data reporting to monitor high street activity.

The role is fixed term from 1 January 2027 to 31 January 2028, with flexible working discussions welcome and a strong emphasis on professional development and community

Responsibilities

• Provide administrative support to key meetings including the Town Centre Operational Management Group.
• Support economic growth by managing information about businesses to enable outdoor markets, events, promotions and commercial activity.
• Process Street Trading Consent applications and ensure data accuracy and timely payments of fees.
• Monitor performance of urban centres by collecting data and producing reports (e.g. occupancy checks).
• Assist place development projects, handle queries by phone and email, and respond to correspondence.
• Collaborate with council teams and external stakeholders to resolve issues affecting vitality and viability of the borough.
