Job summary

Wokingham Borough Council is seeking a Business Engagement Officer to join the Economic Development team on a full-time, 2-year fixed-term contract. You will engage with businesses, partners and stakeholders to strengthen the local economy and promote support through Enterprise initiatives.

You will build strong relationships with employers, understand their needs, connect them to council services and investment opportunities, and contribute to shaping the borough’s business environment through

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject.
• Experience in business engagement or BID development.
• Understanding SMEs and local economies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with target setting and evaluation.
• Excellent organisational and workload management.
• Ability to work with senior officers, managers and partners.
• Knowledge of local government structures and processes.
• Self-starter with negotiation and results-oriented mindset.
• Customer care standards in service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Be a primary point of contact for borough businesses, handling inquiries promptly and providing advice.
• Support the economic development team with relationships to local employers and events.
• Collaborate with external stakeholders to support growth and sustainability of local businesses.
• Collect and analyse business intelligence to inform policy and funding bids.
• Promote investment opportunities and support inward investment activity.
• Assist deployment of the upgraded CRM system.
• Monitor and report outcomes and impact of engagement activity.
