The Vacancy

Binnies is recruiting an experienced Ecologist to lead and expand our team of ecologists in Redhill. You will have the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects, including nationally significant infrastructure and landscape-scale restoration. Our work spans flood, coastal, maritime projects, ports, water utilities, transport, and renewable energy sectors.

One of our key projects is SESRO (South East Strategic Reservoir Option), a 150 million cubic metre reservoir near Abingdon, aiming to create new habitats, enhance biodiversity, and provide leisure facilities.

We are a close-knit team with an active Ecology Community of Practice, committed to ecological excellence and innovation. Our ecologists collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable solutions and maximize Biodiversity Net Gain.

Binnies is a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute), holding the IEMA EIA Quality Mark, reflecting our high standards in ecological and EIA delivery.

About the Role
  • Mentoring and guiding junior ecologists
  • Driving ecological capability and innovation
  • Managing all stages of Ecological Impact Assessment
  • Providing ecological input into planning and consent processes
  • Overseeing protected species licensing and mitigation
  • Designing habitat restoration/creation schemes and delivering Biodiversity Net Gain
  • Supporting tenders
  • Leading field surveys in your areas of expertise
  • Interfacing with project teams, clients, stakeholders, and the public
Qualifications/Requirements
  • Full CIEEM membership
  • Ecological/environmental degree
  • Chartered Ecologist or Environmentalist (or working towards)
  • Protected species licence or ecological specialty
  • Experience in ecological impact assessment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Previous consultancy experience (desirable)

We welcome applications at Senior level and above, with flexible salary based on experience. The role can be tailored to preferences, e.g., field-based, office-based, or hybrid. Start date is flexible, with hybrid and flexible working options available.
