Ecologist, South Wales

Pay rate: £35.52 per hour

Contract role: Planning Ecologist

We are seeking to recruit a planning ecologist with excellent communication skills to support the delivery of development projects that enhance the built and natural environment in a Local Authority in South Wales.

The post holder will provide specialist advice and information on ecology (and nutrient neutrality) related to the land use planning process, primarily within the Local Planning Authority's Development Management function, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policy.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Degree in ecology or a related subject with significant relevant experience.
  2. Knowledge of applicable legislation such as the Habitats Regulations and planning legislation and guidance.
  3. Effective communication skills, self-motivated, organized, and highly computer literate, including proficiency in GIS and databases.

The role is likely to be part-time, with hours dependent on experience and costs. It is a fixed-term appointment until December 2025. Home-based working will be considered.
