Brook Street is seeking an Ecologist for a 2 year fixed contract based in Newport with a hybrid working pattern. The role focuses on biodiversity enhancement across a capital delivery programme and involves coordinating surveys, producing reports, and ensuring environmental best practices.

You will work with project managers, designers and environmental teams to ensure compliant delivery while supporting ECoW services and biodiversity initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Ecology or Environmental Science or related discipline.
  • Membership of CIEEM or working towards accreditation.
  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and survey methodologies.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure, utilities, or capital delivery projects.
  • Ability to produce high-quality ecological reports and assessments.
  • Experience providing Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) services.
  • Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ecological advice through project design, planning and delivery stages.
  • Identify ecological risks, constraints and mitigation to support programmes.
  • Coordinate ecological surveys, including prelim assessments and protected species surveys.
  • Produce ecological reports, Ecological Constraints Plans and RAMS.
  • Support biodiversity initiatives and habitat creation projects.
  • Deliver ECoW support and assist with licences and permits.
  • Liaise with contractors, authorities and regulators to meet ecological needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and improve ecological processes.

Ecologist

2 year Fixed Contract based in Newport, hybrid role offering an outstanding benefits package including bonuses and onsite parking.

An excellent opportunity for an Ecologist to provide specialist ecological support across a diverse capital delivery programme. Working closely with project managers, designers, contractors, and environmental teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and with a strong focus on biodiversity enhancement and environmental best practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide ecological advice throughout project design, planning, and delivery stages.
  • Identify ecological risks, constraints, and mitigation requirements to support project programmes and minimise delays.
  • Undertake and coordinate ecological surveys, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and protected species surveys, where suitably qualified.
  • Produce ecological reports, Ecological Constraints Plans, method statements, RAMS, and planning support documentation.
  • Support biodiversity initiatives, Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, habitat creation projects, and habitat management plans.
  • Deliver Ecological Clerk of Works support and assist with licence and permit applications.
  • Liaise with contractors, local authorities, statutory consultees, and regulatory bodies to ensure ecological requirements are met.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to the continuous improvement of ecological processes and guidance.
About You
  • Degree qualified in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Membership of CIEEM or working towards professional accreditation.
  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, ecological survey methodologies, and environmental best practice.
  • Experience supporting infrastructure, utilities, or capital delivery projects.
  • Ability to produce high-quality ecological reports and assessments.
  • Experience providing Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) services.
  • Knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments and ecological enhancements.
  • GIS experience would be advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
