Job summary

AECOM’s Nature team is looking for an Associate Director to lead ecological and environmental compliance services across the UK & Ireland. This role can be based in any UK office, including Basingstoke, Cambridge or Leeds.

You will build and manage a high-quality network of delivery partners, ensuring technical excellence, quality assurance and scalable delivery for major infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Environmental and/or Ecological Clerk of Works services on major infrastructure, utilities or development projects.
• Strong understanding of construction-phase ecological and environmental compliance requirements.
• Experience working directly with contractors and construction delivery teams.
• Knowledge of secondary consents (planning conditions, DCOs, environmental permits, protected species licensing).
• Experience reviewing, assuring and approving environmental compliance deliverables.
• Strong ecological background with credibility to lead and review ECoW services.
• Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers or delivery partners.
• Strong commercial awareness supporting business development and client engagement.

Responsibilities

• Act as UK&I lead for ECoW and EnvCoW services.
• Lead verifier for ECoW deliverables by internal teams and supply chain partners.
• Ensure projects are resourced, mobilised and delivered to quality standards.
• Provide expert advice on ecological risk management and environmental compliance.
• Support growth of the secondary consents service line.
• Develop UK&I supply chain strategy for ECoW, EnvCoW and related services.
• Support delivery of environmental commitments on major projects.
• Support growth of Clerk of Works services such as arboriculture and archaeology.
