Job Summary:

The Echo/Stress Technician is responsible for the performance of complex cardiac diagnostic procedures including Stress Echocardiograms and Chemical Stress Echocardiograms, and obtaining quality images. The echocardiography technician performs outpatient echocardiography procedures as ordered by a physician. These echo procedures include: 2-D, M-Mode echocardiography, and pulsed, continuous wave, color and tissue doppler procedures on the adult patient. Also includes preliminary interpretation of studies, including an assessment of ventricular performance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  2. Demonstrates proficiency by performing echocardiograms utilizing independent judgment and manipulation of equipment to obtain all necessary calculations and measurements.
  3. Able to identify cardiac abnormalities and notifies the Cardiologist, based on area specific protocol in place. Passes contrast competency training, and identifies when such contrast is needed, to obtain the best images.
  4. Provides clinical services according to specialized ultrasound practice standards and acts as a resource to ensure optimal area functioning.
  5. Administers sound patient care practices according to policies and procedures, to ensure the safety of the patients.
  6. Demonstrates safety for patients, staff and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines, to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  7. Maintains equipment, exam rooms and work areas in a neat and safe condition, to ensure the safety of the patients and employees.
  8. Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations.
  9. Explains procedure before beginning each study, prepping patient, calibrating equipment, and entering patient data.
  10. Completes all studies within selected shift or schedule, unless cleared by the supervisor. No blocks or changes can be made to the booked patient testing schedule, without manager approval.
  11. Prepares test results for physicians' interpretation providing all pertinent patient data, accurately recording measurements on data sheet. Copies and disperses study to appropriate areas. Initiates an appropriate charge for patient account by the end of each shift.
  12. Maintains proper care of equipment, including cleaning and re-stocking.
  13. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  1. Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.
  2. At least 4 continuous years spent in the performance of testing as a Registered Echo Technician. Five (5) year experience as Echo/Stress Tech preferred.
  3. Currently registered as American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or via CCI as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) required.
