We are seeking two Senior Data Scientists to work with the research and data services team as part of the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)-funded Geographic Data Service (GeoDS). This sits within a broader initiative: the ESRC Smart Data Research UK programme.
The roles are dynamic and varied, combining technical expertise and collaborative leadership to support innovative research, most of which has a geographic dimension, as well as ensuring the smooth operation of the data service. You will leverage advanced skills in programming (Python, R), geospatial analytics, and large language models (LLMs) to develop, deploy, and maintain robust, data-driven applications and workflows.
You will work closely at the intersection of academia and industry, translating complex spatial datasets and analytics into practical solutions addressing real-world challenges. The roles require experience in Linux environments, collaborative project management via platforms such as GitHub, and effective communication of technical solutions to diverse stakeholders.
Beyond technical contributions, responsibilities include managing and coordinating team activities, ensuring operational efficiency, and fostering strong relationships internally and externally.
Qualifications include a PhD (or equivalent industry experience) in Computer Science, Geographic Information Science, or a related discipline with a strong programming background, and awareness of quantitative methods and social science datasets. These roles are eligible for sponsorship under the skilled worker route.
Salary: £46,735 - £59,139 per annum.
Closing date: 26/05/2025.
These roles are offered on a fixed-term basis until May 2027.
