At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Technical Author at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The role
As a Technical Author, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll be part of a team that produces the work authorities for fuel handling/defueling of nuclear submarines. In this key role, you'll have an input and influence on the process, including the creation, change and implementation of processes utilised across the Devonport site.

Day-to-day, you’ll:

  • Support in the production of detailed documentation to be utilised by various teams.
  • Provide advice/guidance (within level of competency) to various projects on work content for cost and planning analysis.
  • Ensure that strict contractual and legislative standards are maintained when drafting documentation.
  • Attend meetings to answer questions concerning documentation content and to incorporate any justified changes, as agreed.
  • Perform quality checking to own and peers’ documentation for agreed scope and / or area of expertise.


This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Technical Author

  • The ability to assess maintenance information and identify progress against plan.
  • Technical authoring experience would be advantageous.


Qualifications for the Technical Author

  • Level 3 Qualification in engineering discipline or relevant experience.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
