Role Overview
A non-Chartered Engineer with relevant post-graduation experience working under the direction of a Section Leader.
General Requirements and Attributes for Role
- MEng or BEng degree.
- Commitment to personal development and training.
- Actively training towards chartered membership of a professional institution.
- Ability to manage small projects with modest supervision.
- Ability to exercise engineering judgement and make independent decisions (Project Engineer).
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Management of projects and the staff assigned to them.
- Resourcing and work planning - assist Section Leader with weekly coordination.
- Design - prepare design calculations following the Office Manual procedures.
- Training - take responsibility for personal training and adhere to the ICE Approved Training Scheme under the guidance of the Delegated Engineer.
- Health & Safety - understand risks associated with site visits, ensure appropriate PPE, asbestos awareness training, and health & safety certification. Prepare risk assessments as needed.
- Commercial Awareness - monitor project profitability, prepare fee quotations and claims as required.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing weekly workload reports.
- Maintain resourcing data in Workspace.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Perform structural design work as required.
- Conduct inspections as needed (Project Engineer).
- Monitor financial performance and discuss reports monthly with the Section Leader.
- Maintain professional development and stay updated on technical and legislative changes.
- Contribute to company profitability and external client relationships.
- Participate in project and practice decision-making.
- Report technical and welfare issues to the Section Leader and on Project Owner reports.
- Work independently and as part of a team professionally and efficiently.
- Assist in training junior staff (Project Engineer).
- Ensure timely invoicing of fees for responsible projects.
Project Owner Responsibilities
- Discuss conceptual/feasibility design aspects.
- Plan, supervise, and manage projects ensuring quality service.
- Ensure design compliance with CDM Regulations regarding Health & Safety.
- Monitor project financial performance and profitability.
